Looking for the best pizza in Tampa? You’ve come to the right place. As a self-proclaimed pizza connoisseur, it has been my pleasure doing the research for this post.
When it comes to pizza, I have a few non-negotiables. First and foremost, I’m typically a sucker for New York Style pizza with its thin crust and foldable slices. A good pizza, in my opinion, strikes the perfect balance between cheese and sauce – too much of either can throw off the entire experience. And of course, let’s not forget about that crispy crust that adds that extra bit of satisfaction with every bite.
With these criteria in mind, I set out on a delicious adventure to find the absolute best pizza places in Tampa!
Best pizza in Tampa
Santoro’s Pizza
Santoro’s Pizza is an absolute must-visit when it comes to exploring the best pizza joints in Tampa. It would be a shocker if any list of the best pizza in Tampa didn’t include this beloved staple. Their philosophy echoes the sentiment that a good pizzeria is defined by its plain slice, and Santoro’s nails it with their authentic “Jersey slice” right here in Tampa Bay.
Do not sleep on their garlic knots—they’re a game-changer! The mouthwatering garlic butter coating on these knots has me drooling as I write this. While I tend to keep it simple with a plain slice, Santoro’s also offers a variety of fun and flavorful specialty pies, including Philly cheesesteak, buffalo chicken, meatball marinara, and more.
Plus, their daily lunch special from 11 am to 4 pm is a steal, offering a plain slice, a specialty slice, and a fountain drink for just $7. Any given day you visit here you’ll find a bustling yet inviting atmosphere, complete with a cozy outdoor patio that’s perfect for gathering with friends or family.
Westshore Pizza
Westshore Pizza easily earned a spot in my top three favorite pizza places in Tampa. With locations scattered across Tampa Bay, including Largo, Clearwater, Palm Harbor, and multiple locations in Tampa itself, Westshore Pizza is incredibly accessible no matter where you are in the area. As “Tampa’s original pizza chain,” they bring a wealth of experience and flavor to every slice.
While pizza is the star of the show, Westshore Pizza also offers a diverse menu featuring wings, burgers, calzones, and more. This versatility makes it a go-to choice for me when hosting events—I know I can rely on Westshore Pizza for consistently delicious food that everyone will enjoy.
Plus, if you’re feeding a crowd, they offer the option to have your pizza cut into squares, perfect for sharing and capturing that classic pizzeria feel. They also have great garlic knots here!
Flippers Pizza
Flippers Pizzeria is another gem in Tampa’s pizza scene, and I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying their delicious pies at events in the past. Their pizza is complemented perfectly by their irresistible breadsticks, creating the perfect meal.
I’m obsessed with everything down to their exceptional crust—it’s fluffy yet perfectly crisp, truly the ideal base for their flavorful toppings. While I’m a fan of their classic cheese pizza, I also had the opportunity to try their Arugula & Prosciutto pizza at an event, and it was an absolute hit. In fact, it was the first pizza to disappear from the table! The combination of fresh arugula, savory prosciutto, and perfectly melted cheese made this pizza a standout favorite for many.
They also have a St. Pete location if you’re on the other side of the bridge!
Tampa Bay Brewing Company
Tampa Bay Brewing Company is not only one of the best breweries in Ybor City, but it also serves up some seriously delicious pizza! We have had it a few times.
We’ve kept it basic, with a cheese and veggie pizza, and we’ve tried their Pizza Cubano, a creative twist combining the flavors of a Cuban sandwich with a classic pizza. Both showcased a perfect blend of flavors and the most delicious crispy crust!
The brewery features 24 rotating taps, offering a wide range of beer choices to complement your meal. If you’re not sure where to start, I highly recommend trying their onion soup or Greek salad—they’re fabulous.
Plus, with live music on most Friday and Saturday nights, the outdoor patio becomes an inviting spot to enjoy good food, great beer, and live entertainment!
Sally O’Neal’s
Sally O’Neals is a veteran in the pizza game, serving South Tampa since 1985! They offer a variety of specialty pizzas and pastas, including some gluten-free options, all served in a vibrant setting with outdoor and indoor seating.
Their breadsticks are a must-try—if it’s not obvious I never skip breadsticks or a good garlic knot! What sets Sally O’Neals apart is their house-made red sauce, which has a subtle sweetness that adds a delicious dimension to their pizzas.
While deep-dish pizza isn’t typically my go-to, Sally O’Neals also caters to fans of this style. Additionally, if you’re in need of a hearty brunch or a hangover cure, their breakfast pizzas are a tempting option that’s sure to hit the spot.
Lee’s Grocery
Lee’s Grocery is a hidden gem, offering a laid-back atmosphere with counter seating for pizza, wings, and craft beer, including options to take home in six-packs or cases.
Despite flying under the radar, this cozy spot is where love for pizza and craft beer converge. Established in 1884 as a local grocery store, Lee’s Grocery has evolved into a beloved pizza and craft beer destination while retaining its historic charm.
Bavaro’s Pizza
Bavaro’s is a must-visit pizza place in Tampa for an authentic Neapolitan pizza experience. As Florida’s first traditional Neapolitan pizzeria, they boast multiple locations throughout Tampa Bay, making it convenient for fellow pizza enthusiasts.
The dilemma here isn’t just choosing from their amazing pizzas but also their equally delicious pastas. Bavaro’s prides itself on authenticity, crafting Neapolitan pizzas with hand-stretched dough using a 100-year-old yeast culture, and offering the option to add imported bufala mozzarella for an extra layer of flavor.
Market at EDITION
If you want not just some of the best pizza in Tampa, but also a chic dining experience, the Market at EDITION is calling your name!
Despite The Tampa EDITION’s boujie restaurant offerings, their pizza at Market at EDITION steals the show as my top recommendation. Inspired by the Italian coast, the menu boasts fresh Neapolitan-style pizzas alongside charcuterie boards and a range of negronis and spritzes.
What sets Market at EDITION apart isn’t just the delicious pizza but also the unparalleled ambiance, making it the perfect spot if you’re seeking a stylish pizza experience in Tampa.
Forbici Modern Italian
Forbici is more than just a pizza place; it’s a Hyde Park restaurant where every dish is crafted with love and meant to be shared. It’s one of the best Italian restaurants in all of Tampa!
Inspired by the notion that meals bring people together, Forbici creates an inviting atmosphere where friends, family, and new acquaintances can gather around delicious Roman-style pizzas.
They are available in both round and square options. Their unique crust style adds a delightful twist to classic pizza, making every bite a memorable experience. Every time I come here I have to get their calamari and Erica kale salad! Be sure to check them out during their daily happy hour between 3 PM – 6 PM.
Other pizza places in Tampa that I have heard great things, about but have not been to yet:
- Bella’s Italian Cafe
- Fabrica Pizza
